Preoperative Planning

Preparing for a successful recovery begins before surgery. Thoughtful preparation often determines how smoothly recovery unfolds after you return home. By anticipating your postoperative needs in advance, many common sources of stress and uncertainty can be minimized before surgery ever takes place. During your preoperative planning experience, your orthopedic concierge nurse prepares every aspect of your recovery by developing your individualized recovery plan, providing personalized education, coordinating the details of your recovery, and ensuring you are ready for a safe and smooth transition home following your procedure.

Includes:

  • Home safety assessment

  • Recovery environment preparation

  • Equipment and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) planning

  • Medication planning

  • Recovery Readiness Workbook

  • Caregiver education

  • Review anticipated milestones common during the first two postoperative weeks

  • Discuss strategies for managing potential postoperative concerns

  • Establish communication preferences

  • Prepare for the transition from hospital to home with individualized recovery planning

Individualized In-Home Sessions

Recovery rarely progresses in a straight line. As swelling changes, mobility improves, pain fluctuates, and confidence grows, your clinical needs evolve. Your recovery experience is intentionally designed to adapt alongside those changes rather than following a predetermined schedule.

Your recovery is supported through a personalized combination of Focused Sessions and Extended Comprehensive Sessions. The type of session, timing, and frequency of each session are determined by your recovery progress, surgical procedure, recovery goals, and individual needs—not by a predetermined schedule.

Each session may include:

  • Comprehensive head-to-toe orthopedic nursing assessment or reassessment to evaluate your overall recovery, identify changes in your condition, and monitor healing.

  • Individualized recovery education and clinical guidance to reinforce your surgeon’s postoperative instructions, answer questions, and help you understand what to expect as your recovery progresses.

  • Medication review and symptom management to support safe medication use, reinforce your prescribed treatment plan, and address common postoperative concerns.

  • Mobility, transfer, and safety guidance to promote safe movement, reduce fall risk, and build confidence as you regain independence.

  • Recovery progress evaluation to assess functional improvement, identify potential barriers to healing, and tailor future sessions based on your individual recovery.

  • Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) review and interpretation to integrate objective recovery data with your nursing assessments, providing a more comprehensive understanding of your recovery and progress.

  • Communication, collaboration, and coordination with your surgeon and healthcare team.

Continuous Recovery Support

Questions often arise long after an in-home visit has ended. New symptoms develop. Progress accelerates or slows. Recovery milestones arrive unexpectedly. Continuous recovery support provides reassurance that guidance remains available throughout the entire recovery experience— not just during scheduled appointments. Although you may not have an in-home session every day, your recovery continues to receive personalized attention throughout your Exclusive Recovery Experience.

Between scheduled sessions, your orthopedic concierge nurse remains actively engaged by reviewing your progress, interpreting Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) data, answering questions, providing ongoing education, and helping you confidently navigate each stage of recovery.

Your Exclusive Recovery Experience is delivered through a personalized combination of Focused Recovery Sessions and Extended Comprehensive Recovery Sessions. The type, timing, and frequency of each session are individualized based on your surgical procedure, recovery progress, recovery goals, and clinical needs

—Focused Recovery Sessions

Typically 60–90 minutes

Targeted one-on-one sessions designed to evaluate your progress, address emerging questions, reinforce education, and provide timely orthopedic clinical guidance between major recovery milestones

—Extended Comprehensive Recovery Sessions

Typically 3–4 hours

Reserved for the most critical phases of recovery. These extended sessions allow time for comprehensive head-to-toe orthopedic nursing assessments, mobility and safety guidance, hands-on recovery guidance, RTM review and interpretation, and thoughtful communication and coordination without the time constraints often associated with traditional healthcare visits.

Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM)

Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) is included as part of your recovery experience, providing an additional layer of sophisticated orthopedic clinical insight into your recovery by monitoring key recovery metrics between sessions. RTM allows your orthopedic concierge nurse to evaluate objective recovery trends alongside your clinical assessments, helping to provide more individualized guidance throughout recovery.

Using a simple smartphone app and specialized recovery sensors applied after surgery, your recovery data is securely captured throughout the healing process. This allows your orthopedic concierge nurse to monitor important recovery indicators such as range of motion, swelling, skin temperature, and recovery progression while comparing those objective findings with your clinical assessments and your surgeon’s postoperative plan.

This additional insight helps provide:

  • Objective monitoring of your recovery between in-home sessions, providing measurable data that complements ongoing orthopedic nursing assessments.

  • Earlier recognition of meaningful changes, recovery trends, or potential concerns, allowing for timely clinical evaluation and intervention when appropriate.

  • More individualized clinical guidance throughout recovery by combining objective recovery data with comprehensive orthopedic nursing assessments.

  • Reinforcement of your surgeon’s postoperative plan.

  • Timely communication, collaboration, and coordination with your surgeon and healthcare team.

  • Greater confidence knowing your recovery is being followed and evaluated even when your orthopedic concierge nurse is not physically in your home.
